Rev. Dick Cole to be Named Pastor Emeritus
On Sunday, September 3, Rev. F.R. Dick and Iris Cole will be honored for their contributions to the legacy and faith of First Baptist Raytown. Rev. Cole served as senior pastor at First Baptist Raytown from 1966 to 1983. A presentation will be made during the service naming Rev. Cole as Pastor Emeritus.
“Dick and Iris are a model pastor and wife,” said Paul Brooks, senior pastor at First Baptist Raytown. “Dick’s evangelistic passion is matched by his tender pastor’s heart.”
Rev. Cole guided First Baptist Raytown in redefining its priorities, and moved it toward becoming a church with a strong belief in missions and evangelism, supported by strong biblical preaching. During his 17 year tenure, First Baptist Raytown’s total membership nearly doubled, and the church baptized over 2,200 individuals. Rev. Cole served on several boards and committees, including Southwest Baptist University’s Board of Trustees in the early 1980’s. In addition, Mrs. Cole helped to start the Heart of America Christmas Pageant, an event that continues today and now draws over 20,000 people each year.
“Dick Cole led our church through an extraordinary period of evangelistic outreach,” said Brooks. “Many came to God through his ministry, and many others were inspired in their walk with the Lord during that time.”
The Coles retired from professional ministry in 2004, and now reside in Kansas City, MO.
The service honoring the Coles will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Worship Center of First Baptist Raytown, located at 10500 E. 350 Highway in Raytown, MO.
